Train to be a Driving Instructor

We offer instructor training in Colchester and Clacton. You will NOT be asked to sign any contracts before, during or once you have qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)

If you’re looking for a change of career that is rewarding, offers flexible working hours and being your own boss then this might well be the right career for you.

At DVDS we aim to train only suitable applicants to be an Approved Driving Instructor. With this in mind before we accept you on our instructor training course you will undertake a 2 hour assessment to assess if you are a suitable candidate and also to allow you to decide if you feel it’s a career you would enjoy. You will also meet one of the instructor trainers, Rick or Kieran.

Instructor training. The Driving Test

The Part 2 Test is a test of your driving ability. Before you attempt this test Rick or Kieran will teach you to drive to a very high standard. He will assess your driving on town roads, country roads and dual carriageways. You will also need to complete various manoeuvres demonstrating a high level of skill.

This test is conducted at the nominated DVSA test centre. It consists of an eyesight test where you will read a number plate at a distance of 27.5 metres. There will follow 5 vehicle safety questions of a ‘Show Me,’ ‘Tell Me’ nature and then the test of your driving ability which is of an advanced nature. You will need good quality structured training to pass this part of the exam. This test will last for 1 hour and 15 minutes approximately. Read more about the Part 2 test on the Gov website.

The training for the Part 2 Test is £37.00 per hour.

The Instructional Test

The Part 3 Test. This is by far the most involved part of the exam and you will need sufficient one to one training to ensure you are prepared. Classroom tuition is inadequate for this part of the exam. At DVDS all of your instructor training for part 3 is in-car practical tuition. Rick or Kieran will recreate situations that you will face when teaching students to make you fully prepared for the exam. This is a test of your ability to instruct learner drivers and will require effort and commitment from both you and us! Upon passing the Part 3 examination you will be a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and ready for your new career! Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you require any more information. Read more about the Part 3 test on the Gov website.

The training for the Part 3 Test is £37.00 per hour.
